HOST A HOUSE SHOW
What’s a house show?
house shows are so fun and i’m sure once you experience one, you’ll love them too! some of my favorite music experiences have been at house shows (both in the audience or from the front). house shows are (you guessed it) held in a house (usually) and the audience is your friends and guests. they’re an opportunity to hear the stories behind the songs, maybe share a meal together, hang out before and after the show, and experience music without the barriers of a stage, lights, sound system and “big-concert” experience. backyards, barns, coffee shops and other small venues also count as house shows.
DO I need a big room or a sound system?
no, you definitely don’t need a big room. house shows are usually around 30 people (give or take). small spaces bring people together in a really beautiful way that’s truly unique. i have a small sound system that I can bring if the space is big enough to justify it, but i personally like to do without if possible. acoustic music without the barrier of a sound system is a really special experience. backyards are also cool, as long as you have an indoor backup plan in case of weather.
Who will come?
this is completely up to you! i’m happy to promote it on my end if you want, but ultimately it’s up to you to bring your community and the people you think would enjoy the experience.
What will it cost?
ahhh yes, great question. i’ll ask you to cover my travel expenses (this will be minimal if I’m already traveling through your area and can combine your show with other events). beyond that, i like to make at least $500 from a house show (this can be made up from donations from guests, merch sales, tickets, or a combination of the above). ultimately I care more about sharing music than money, and i don’t want anybody to be excluded from this experience, so if you want to host me i can probably work with you!
Where will you stay?
if you have a guest room i’d love to stay with you, as long as you’re not creepy. a hotel/airbnb also works!
How far will you come?
i love traveling so as long as my travel expenses are covered and it makes logistical sense we can probably make it work!
